Basketball Recap: Monroe Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Darlington

Monroe lost to Darlington back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Monroe Cheesemakers enjoyed a cozy 71-52 win over the Darlington Redbirds. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Cheesemakers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Redbirds are ranked 52nd).

Monroe is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Darlington, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-4.

When Monroe and Darlington next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Monroe will face off against Turner and their four-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Darlington will try to stop Mineral Point's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
