Consistent greatness has piloted Norfolk Catholic to the peak of MaxPreps' most dominant football teams in Nebraska since 2006. After winning three state titles, and finishing runner-up twice more, the Knights are the only Cornhusker State school to claim a spot in each of the state's MaxPreps final Top 25 rankings since 2006.

Although Norfolk Catholic did not finish atop the rankings in any given year during the past decade, the Knights did claim a No. 2 spot in 2012 and finished third in 2010 following state championship seasons. Jeff Bellar's program claimed three straight Class C1 state football championships beginning in 2010, and finished 13-0 in both 2010 and 2011.

David City Aquinas, winner of four Class C2 state championships during the same time span, comes in at No. 2 after winning its final two championships in 2014 and 2015. The Monarchs accumulated 208 points, 56 behind the Knights, after finding a spot in seven of MaxPreps' final Top 25 rankings over the past 10 seasons. The Monarchs finished in the Top 5 in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015.

MaxPreps has developed its own system in determining which football programs compete at the highest level over an extended period of time. Here is how points are accumulated:

1. 20 points for a state title

2. 10 points for finishing as a state runner-up

3. Other points are based on a team's Top 25 standing in the final MaxPreps Nebraska Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. For instance, if a school claimed the top spot, it receives 25 points, while a No. 25 ranking is good for one point.
