Basketball Recap: Trinity Magee's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Moss Point over Murphy + How To Watch

It was a proper cat-fight when Moss Point challenged Murphy on Friday. The Tigers fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 39-37. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 82nd in Mississippi, while the Panthers are ranked 14th in Alabama).

Moss Point's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trinity Magee, who went 6-for-12 on her way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaria Nettles, who posted eight points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Murphy found their leader in sophomore Makenzie James, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals. James has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last eight times she's played. Lauren Russell was another key player, putting up eight points and five steals.

Moss Point is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9. As for Murphy, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Looking ahead, Moss Point will be home for the holidays to greet Bryant at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Hurricanes have now posted at least 55 points in their last six games. As for Murphy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Vigor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
