Baseball Game Preview: Cumberland Colts vs. Buena Chiefs

The Cumberland Colts will challenge the Buena Chiefs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Cumberland has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

It looked like the Kentucky Derby when Cumberland took on Triton on Tuesday. The Colts came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mustangs, sneaking past 4-3.

Mark Sooy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kevin Fiorani, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Tyler Kundera was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Highland Regional hit Buena with a five-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Chiefs lost 9-3 to the Tartans.

Johnny Morales was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles. Another player making a difference was Richie Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Buena's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-11. As for Cumberland, their win bumped their record up to 5-19.
