Baseball Game Preview: East Surry Cardinals vs. West Wilkes Blackhawks

The East Surry Cardinals will venture away from home to take on the West Wilkes Blackhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

East Surry came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Forbush, falling 6-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Cardinals were not able to get on the board.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between West Wilkes and North Surry, and North Surry kept the tradition alive. The Blackhawks took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greyhounds on Tuesday. The Blackhawks' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

East Surry has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season. As for West Wilkes, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.

East Surry skirted past West Wilkes 4-2 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
