Baseball Recap: Kiefer Victorious

Kiefer took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against Oklahoma Union, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Cougars 8-6. For the Trojans, this counts as revenge for the 14-2 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2016.

Carson Nance spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Kiefer let Daxton Smith and Landon Easton run wild. Smith scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Easton scored a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Easton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Owen Murphy, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Kiefer hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oklahoma Union struck out nine times.

Kiefer is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Oklahoma Union, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kiefer will square off against Tulsa NOAH HomeSchool at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oklahoma Union, they will face off against Rejoice Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
