Basketball Recap: Lake Weir Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Lake Weir easily dispatched Belleview last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Lake Weir Hurricanes fell just short of the South Sumter Raiders by a score of 51-49 on Tuesday. The Hurricanes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Hurricanes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was John Smith, who went 7 for 17 on his way to 14 points and five boards. That's the most rebounds Smith has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alcarlos Richard, who went 5 of 8 en route to 11 points and seven boards.

Lake Weir's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-10. As for South Sumter, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season.

Lake Weir will head out on the road to face off against South Lake at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in South Lake's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests. South Sumter has already played their next game, a 49-45 win against Springstead on the 29th.
