Basketball Recap: Excelsior Classical Academy Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Excelsior Classical Academy won the last time they faced Henderson Collegiate, and Hunter Goss did his part to make sure it happened again. The Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions walked away with a 57-48 win over the Henderson Collegiate Pride on Friday thanks in part to Goss, who almost dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 21 boards, and nine blocks. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Shawn Francis-Service, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Excelsior Classical Academy is 8-2 when Francis-Service posts five or more steals, but 1-4 otherwise.

Henderson Collegiate's loss came despite strong showings from Jayson Baskerville and Deion Lemay. Baskerville went 8 of 15 en route to 17 points and six boards, while Lemay almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Lemay is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aden Branche, who had five points and five rebounds.

Excelsior Classical Academy's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-6. As for Henderson Collegiate, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Excelsior Classical Academy will square off against Cristo Rey Research Triangle at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Excelsior Classical Academy is facing Cristo Rey Research Triangle at the right time seeing as Cristo Rey Research Triangle is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Henderson Collegiate, they will face off against Eno River Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eno River Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season.
