Basketball Recap: Pell City Comes Up Short

After a string of three wins, Pell City's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 65-38 loss at the hands of the Jacksonville Golden Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered since December 17, 2024.

Pell City lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Saniya McFarlin, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. McFarlin's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zaniya Mitchell, who posted eight points and nine steals.

Jacksonville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Neveah Nicholson, who put up 18 points. Alexis Phillips was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Pell City's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-17. As for Jacksonville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Pell City has already played their next game, a 54-31 defeat against Oxford on the 14th. As for Jacksonville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-16 win against St. Clair County on the 16th.
