Irrigon is 8-2 against Umatilla since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Knights will take on the Vikings at 3:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Ten must be Irrigon's lucky number: they beat Riverside with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Knights beat the Pirates by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Umatilla made easy work of Ontario on Saturday and carried off a 13-2 win. While fans of the Vikings might be used to big wins, the 11-run margin marked the team's biggest one yet.
Carter Griggs made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Pablo Estrada and Bryce Morris did most of the damage at the plate: Estrada went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Morris went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Estrada has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Xzavier Rodriguez, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Irrigon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Umatilla, their record is now 6-3.
Irrigon skirted past Umatilla 5-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
