Volleyball Recap: Port Edwards' Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

There's no place like home for Port Edwards, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Assumption Royals by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Blackhawks as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Port Edwards walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the fourth set). The final score came out to 25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 25-12.

Port Edwards can attribute much of their success to Evelyn Fletcher, who had 15 digs and three aces. Those three aces gave Fletcher a new career-high. Taylin McDonald also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

They weren't the only good server: Port Edwards was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 20 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in three consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Assumption lost, don't look at Carleigh Halbersma. Despite the final result, she had 18 digs.

Port Edwards' victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Assumption, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port Edwards will host Tigerton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Assumption, they will welcome Stratford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
