Preview: Hunterdon Central Red Devils vs. Phillipsburg Stateliners

Hunterdon Central has been on the road for six straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Phillipsburg Stateliners at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.

Even though Hunterdon Central has not done well against Trenton Central recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Hunterdon Central took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 65-32 victory over Trenton Central. The win was just what Hunterdon Central needed coming off of a 62-39 defeat in their prior game.

Meanwhile, Phillipsburg came tearing into Saturday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 63-55 victory over Ridge.

Phillipsburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Matthew Scerbo Jr. out in front who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Scerbo Jr. has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ameer Herran, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Hunterdon Central's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-5. As for Phillipsburg, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Hunterdon Central came up short against Phillipsburg when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 68-56. Will Hunterdon Central have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
