Football Recap: Tj Brown Key Part of Team Effort in Hurricane Win

There's no place like home for Jonesboro, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They strolled past the DeSoto Central Jaguars with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 49-34. For the Hurricane, this counts as revenge for the 27-12 victory the Jaguars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Jonesboro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tj Brown out in front who rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 43 receiving yards and one score. Asa Myers was another key passer, throwing for 299 yards and four TDs on only 19 passes.

DeSoto Central's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Eric Perry, who rushed for 141 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and Cade Rodgers, who rushed for 220 yards and one score while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Rodgers is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 160 every time he's taken the field this season.

Jonesboro's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for DeSoto Central, they now also have a losing record of 1-2.

Jonesboro will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Benton at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. The match will give the Hurricane their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for DeSoto Central, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 56-7 victory against PURE Academy on the 19th.
