Baseball Recap: Belvidere Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Belvidere ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Jefferson J-Hawks 9-8. The Bucs haven't had any issues with the J-Hawks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Nathan Steurer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Steurer was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Belvidere is 2-1 when Steurer posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-16 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Frankie Freeman, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Belvidere: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-16 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmett Rodriguez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Belvidere kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Belvidere's record now sits at 6-17. As for Jefferson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Looking ahead, Belvidere will take on Woodstock at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jefferson will be paying especially close attention to the Bucs' matchup: after the Bucs face off against the Blue Streaks, they'll take on Jefferson again at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
