Softball Game Preview: South Pasadena Tigers vs. Archer School for Girls Panthers

The South Pasadena Tigers will face off against the Archer School for Girls Panthers at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Archer School for Girls took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on South Pasadena, who comes in off a win.

South Pasadena barely beat San Marino the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 10-2 victory on Wednesday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

South Pasadena got a great performance from Lucia Atencio as she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Atencio has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, South Pasadena let Brooke Zeisler and Andrea Becerra run wild. Zeisler went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Becerra went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Becerra a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taelyn Adams, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Archer School for Girls' good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They lost 17-7 to Providence.

Makenzie Hilton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmy Rapp, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

South Pasadena has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Archer School for Girls, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
