Baseball Game Preview: Edwards County Lions vs. Farina South Central Cougars

The Edwards County Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Farina South Central Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Edwards County will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Edwards County's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Flora.

The result came thanks to Jex Schnepper's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Edwards County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Hensley, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles Hensley has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Farina South Central sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Newton on Thursday.

Chase Guerrettaz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on eight hits. He has become a key player for Farina South Central: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Seth Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

Edwards County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Farina South Central, their record now sits at 9-10.

Edwards County couldn't quite get it done against Farina South Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
