At the plate, the team relied heavily on Charli Pages, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marilyn McCaverty, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Moorpark sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Simi Valley on Monday.
Kiley Finnerty looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rylie Cregut and Ava McGowan did most of the damage at the plate: Cregut went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while McGowan went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Nathalie Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Moorpark hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Simi Valley struck out seven times.
Moorpark is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for El Segundo, their win bumped their record up to 18-3.
