Baseball Recap: Erie Red Devils vs. Bluestem Lions
Erie extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-14-1 in the process. They fell 4-1 to the Bluestem Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 on Friday.
Erie saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Montee, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Bluestem, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.
On Bluestem's side, Tristan Highbarger was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Highbarger also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bluestem is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-8 otherwise. Highbarger was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Erie will challenge Eureka at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils are facing the Tornadoes at the right time seeing as the Tornadoes are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Bluestem, they will face off against Cherryvale at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
