Recap: Bear Grass Charter Bears vs. Northside - Pinetown Panthers
If the Bear Grass Charter Bears were feeling good off their 65-16 takedown of the Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech Griffins on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Bear Grass Charter ended up on the wrong side of a rough 64-42 walloping at the hands of Northside - Pinetown on Friday. While losing is never fun, Bear Grass Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Northside - Pinetown is ranked 27th).
Despite the defeat, Bear Grass Charter saw an underclassman step up: Aubrey Dotson scored 18 points along with 7 steals and 6 rebounds. Dotson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Annmarie Cooper was another key contributor, scoring 3 points along with 10 rebounds and 6 steals.
Even though they lost, Bear Grass Charter were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northside - Pinetown only pulled down six.
Leading Northside - Pinetown to victory were OJ Cahoon and Mariah Jones. Cahoon scored 24 points, while Jones scored 24 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Jones continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Scheffler, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds.
Bear Grass Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Northside - Pinetown, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Bear Grass Charter will head out on the road to face off against Bethel Christian Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northside - Pinetown, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pasquotank County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
