Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Precious Conerly and Neliyaha Smith Lead West Marion to Victory + How To Watch

After losing to Sumrall the last time they met, West Marion decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bobcats 50-48. While the Trojans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

West Marion was led to victory by Neliyaha Smith and Precious Conerly. Smith dropped a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Conerly dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 8.6 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Callason Barnes, who posted ten points and five boards.

West Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Kynlee Speed and Ella Robertson certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Speed earned 14 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, while Robertson had 17 points and five boards. Robertson has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 16 times she's played. Cha'Dai Dillion was another key player, putting up five points and six rebounds.

West Marion's record is now 5-2. As for Sumrall, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-5.

West Marion didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-46 defeat against North Forrest on the 20th. As for Sumrall, they will square off against Purvis at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
