Preview: Manteo Redskins vs. Northeastern Eagles
Manteo has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Northeastern Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Manteo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Manteo came up short against Pasquotank County and fell 38-28.
Despite their defeat, Manteo saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Sydnee Ballance, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. That's the first time this season that Ballance pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of CC Lowe, who scored two points along with 14 rebounds.
Northeastern posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 69-21 victory over Camden County at home. The victory was just what Northeastern needed coming off of a 67-45 loss in their prior game.
Manteo's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Northeastern, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Manteo might still be hurting after the 72-47 loss they got from Northeastern when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Manteo, Aniyah Rainey (who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
