The Northwestern Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Wabash Apaches at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
Northwestern made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Kokomo, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Tigers fell just short of the Wildkats by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Wildkats: they've now lost four in a row.
Northwestern saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addy Clark, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wabash, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Elwood 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Apaches have posted since April 26th.
Kalli Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, MyKenzie Renn was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Ava Lynn also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Wabash hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elwood struck out seven times.
Northwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Wabash, their record now sits at 8-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northwestern has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wabash struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
