Recap: Benson Bobcats vs. Amphitheater Panthers

The Benson Bobcats were the 55-35 winner over the Amphitheater Panthers when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Benson took a 54-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Amphitheater on Thursday. Benson has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Benson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trinity Foy, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Foy set a new season high mark in blocks with four. Another player making a difference was Kaylei Taylor, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and five assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Amphitheater to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayla Tuakalau, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was Tuakalau's 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shanise Bustamante, who scored ten points along with six assists and six steals.

Benson's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-3. As for Amphitheater, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.

Benson won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Baboquivari at 9:00 a.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Baboquivari focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. Amphitheater won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Douglas at 1:00 p.m. on December 15th. Douglas is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.3 points per game.
