Basketball Recap: Albemarle Comes Up Short

Albemarle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 63-58 heartbreaker at the hands of the Union Academy Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 82-79 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Among those leading the charge was Heath Lunsford, who went 5 of 11 en route to 13 points along with eight boards and three steals. He has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last eight times he's played. Sam Additon was another key player, putting up four points and nine rebounds.

Albemarle's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Union Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Albemarle will host Mount Pleasant at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Pleasant has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 236 points over their last three contests. As for Union Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gray Stone Day at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season.
