Despite their defeat, Douglas County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Roman Saiz, who went 6 for 13 en route to 13 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Saiz is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. Vaughn Baldwin was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points and three steals.
Meanwhile, Rock Canyon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 62-56 to ThunderRidge.
Douglas County will have to keep a close watch on Jacob David and Davis May, a pair of players who had a big impact on Rock Canyon's prior game. David went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points, while May went 6 of 9 on his way to 17 points and five boards. Those five rebounds gave May a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Ellwood, who posted two points and four steals.
Rock Canyon now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Douglas County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Douglas County has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 23.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rock Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
