Baseball Recap: Grove City Comes Up Short

Grove City was the 8-7 winner over Mercer when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Grove City took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mercer on Tuesday.

Grove City got a good showing from Jaxen Pyle, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Nolan Renick made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Gavin Gilmore was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Grove City's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. Mercer has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Looking ahead, Grove City will be playing at home against Mercyhurst Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mercer, they will face off against Karns City at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
