Softball Game Preview: Elverado Falcons vs. Harrisburg Bulldogs

The Elverado Falcons will venture away from home to take on the Harrisburg Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Elverado will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Elverado turned things around against Century on Wednesday. They skirted past the Centurions 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted since April 25, 2024.

Maggie Elson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Essence Haynes and Bridgett Elder did most of the damage at the plate: Haynes went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three runs, while Elder went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most runs Haynes has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mylee Roberts, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Harrisburg made easy work of Vienna on Friday and carried off a 13-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Harrisburg's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Elverado, their record now sits at 11-6.

Elverado couldn't quite finish off Harrisburg when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
