Baseball Recap: Wyoming Area Drops Season-High Score on Tunkhannock

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wyoming Area). They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Tunkhannock Tigers on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Marco Altavilla looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Wyoming Area got a massive performance out of Jeremy Layland, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Layland a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of David Fath, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Wyoming Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Wyoming Area and bumps their season record up to 6-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Tunkhannock, they dropped their record down to 0-12 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Wyoming Area will take on Lake-Lehman at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tunkhannock, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-1 loss against Valley View on the 27th.
