Basketball Recap: Wheeler Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Izabela Schumacher and Kylie Simpson

Wheeler lost against Morgan Township back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Wheeler Bearcats fell to the Morgan Township Cherokees 34-29. The Bearcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Wheeler's loss came despite strong showings from Kylie Simpson and Izabela Schumacher. Simpson went 7 for 17 on her way to 14 points and six steals, while Schumacher posted six points in addition to 19 boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Schumacher a new career-high in boards.

Among those leading the charge was Josie Lemmons, who had 13 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Wasz, who put up seven points and 12 rebounds.

Wheeler's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Morgan Township, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-4.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wheeler Bearcats take on the Northwestern Tigers at 11:30 a.m. on December 28th. Wheeler is facing Northwestern at the right time seeing as Northwestern is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Morgan Township and North White will round out the year against one another at at 12:30 p.m. on December 28th.
