Recap: Huntingtown Hurricanes vs. Northern Patriots
The Huntingtown Hurricanes had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past Northern with points to spare, taking the game 26-7. For Huntingtown, this counts as revenge for the 13-6 loss Northern walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2022.
Evan Kuntz continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Roger Jones Jr. also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Northern to a paltry 227 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Huntingtown's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Evan Powell and his two sacks.
Huntingtown's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 La Plata and 2-9 Chopticon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35.9% over those games). As for Northern, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Huntingtown will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Gwynn Park at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. As for Northern, they will look to defend their home field on November 4th against St. Charles at 7:00 p.m. St. Charles and Northern are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
