The Meigs Marauders will head out to square off against the Wellston Golden Rockets at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Saturday, Meigs got the win against Portsmouth by a conclusive 9-2.
Natalie Goode made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Chloe Burnem was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Horn, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Meigs kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Wellston put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's sixth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Vinton County a 6-0 shutout.
Like Meigs, Wellston also got a great game from a two-way player: Hannah Potts. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 20 over seven innings pitched. Potts was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karly Rinehart, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Reece Karr was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Wellston pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 8.6 runs thus far. As for Meigs, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Meigs couldn't quite get it done against Wellston in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-5. Can the Marauders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
