Baseball Recap: Epiphany Falcons vs. Wayne Christian Eagles
Epiphany had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it six. They came up short against the Wayne Christian Eagles, falling 11-1. The Falcons were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Epiphany saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leighton Dorn, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Liam Ewing also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
As for Wayne Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.
On Wayne Christian's side, Brandon Benkovics made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Benkovics has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Wayne Christian's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grant Anderson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Miles Hamm was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
