Baseball Recap: Platte Valley Triumphs

Platte Valley took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Mount Michael Benedictine, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Platte Valley skirted past Mount Michael Benedictine 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Platte Valley has posted since March 26th.

Carson Hollst spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Platte Valley secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Hayden Kauffman, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Platte Valley's record now sits at 16-2. As for Mount Michael Benedictine, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Platte Valley will face off against Palmyra at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.67 runs per game on average), something Platte Valley will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mount Michael Benedictine, they will venture away from home to take on Skutt Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The SkyHawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
