Baseball Recap: Sutherlin Comes Up Short

Sutherlin extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Siuslaw Vikings. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 11-0 to the Vikings when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Siuslaw, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Siuslaw's part, Joel Sissel and Jacob Mann made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Sissel tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Mann pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sissel also tossed no walks, which is notable because Siuslaw is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-8 otherwise. At bat, Sissel went 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Mann got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Sissel a new career-high.

In other batting news, Maximus Reynolds was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Siuslaw: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Roenin Barrows, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Sutherlin has already played their next contest (against Mapleton/Siuslaw), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Siuslaw will be paying especially close attention to the Bulldogs' game: after the Bulldogs face off against the Sailors, they'll take on Siuslaw again at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
