Basketball Recap: Desoto Central Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Madison-Ridgeland Academy

On Monday, DeSoto Central faced Madison-Ridgeland Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The DeSoto Central Jaguars fell 57-48 to the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots. The Jaguars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2017.

Madison-Ridgeland Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Erick Dampier, Jr., who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 19 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Dampier, Jr. a new career-high in boards. Will Bizot was another key player, going 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points.

DeSoto Central's loss dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Madison-Ridgeland Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9.

DeSoto Central has already played their next game (against Lewisburg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Madison-Ridgeland Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-43 defeat against Jackson Prep on the 21st.
