Softball Recap: Archie Comes Up Short

If Archie was feeling good fresh off their 22-7 takedown of Lakeland last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Whirlwinds took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Midway Vikings on Thursday. The Whirlwinds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Shelby Newport was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Newport is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lizzy Thompson, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Archie now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Midway, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Archie will square off against Hume at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Midway, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Lincoln at 5:00 p.m.
