Basketball Recap: Crystal City Takes a Loss

Crystal City lost against United back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Crystal City Javelinas took a blow against the United Longhorns, falling 74-41. While losing is never fun, the Javelinas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 680th, while the Longhorns are ranked 295th).

Several Javelinas players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caryssa Diaz, who posted ten points and six boards. Breana Hernandez was another key player, putting up seven points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Crystal City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Crystal City's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for United, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

Crystal City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 27-25 victory against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial on the 6th. As for United, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-41 defeat against Weslaco on the 7th.
