Softball Recap: Rio Mesa Spartans vs. Ventura Cougars

Rio Mesa extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 14-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ventura Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 on Tuesday.

Rio Mesa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Analia Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

As for Ventura, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games.

On Ventura's side, not much got past Jessie Sebek, who gave up just three hits to keep Rio Mesa off the board. Sebek has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
