The Glenwood Titans will venture away from home to face off against the Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Glenwood has five straight wins, Sacred Heart-Griffin has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Sacred Heart-Griffin's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Glenwood hadn't allowed a single run the last five times they've hit the field. Everything went the Titans' way against Springfield Southeast on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Andrew Wahlbrink looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Tyler Gurski was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Anderson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Glenwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springfield Southeast only posted an OBP of .200.
Sacred Heart-Griffin had taken Jacksonville down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Cyclones took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crimsons.
Glenwood pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sacred Heart-Griffin, their loss dropped their record down to 17-7.
Glenwood came up short against Sacred Heart-Griffin when the teams last played back in April, falling 10-6. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
