Football Game Preview: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Helix Highlanders + How To Watch

Mater Dei Catholic is a perfect 3-0 against Helix since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Crusaders will host the Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. Helix took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mater Dei Catholic, who comes in off a win.

Mater Dei Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They snuck past St. Augustine with a 33-28 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Crusaders in their matchups with the Saints: they've now won five in a row.

Jordan Dumaran continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 236 yards and four TDs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 105.4 rushing yards per game. Jackson Munford was another key player, throwing for 250 yards and one touchdown while completing 88% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mater Dei Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 249 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Helix's offense. They took a blow against Cathedral Catholic on Friday, falling 49-0. While losing is never fun, the Highlanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Dons are ranked 13th).

This is the second loss in a row for Helix and nudges their season record down to 1-4. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.

Mater Dei Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Helix in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, sneaking past 17-14. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
