Pentwater and Mesick are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Pentwater Falcons will host the Mesick Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pentwater has seven straight wins, Mesick has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Last Tuesday, Pentwater beat Shelby 70-57. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Tigers are ranked 675th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pentwater got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mikey Carlson out in front who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 15 rebounds. That's the most boards Carlson has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Trey Johnson, who scored 17 points and eight rebounds.
Pentwater smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 64-28, which was the final score in Mesick's tilt against Marion on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite the defeat, Mesick saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jackson Abraham put up 16 points.
Pentwater pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points over those games. As for Mesick, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
Everything came up roses for Pentwater against Mesick in their previous matchup back in January, as the team secured a 60-33 victory. Does Pentwater have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mesick turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
