Softball Game Preview: Cupertino Pioneers vs. Saratoga Falcons

Cupertino is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will head out on the road to face off against the Saratoga Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Cupertino has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Saratoga will come in with three straight wins.

Cupertino came up short against South San Francisco on Friday, falling 15-8.

Phoenyx Delgado was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Shelby Apostolo, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Delgado wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Cupertino kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Saratoga). They put the hurt on Fremont with a sharp 10-0 victory on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Falcons considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Saratoga pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cupertino, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
