Football Game Preview: Morgan Trojans vs. Grantsville Cowboys

The Morgan Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Grantsville Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Morgan is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

Morgan's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 56-0 win over Ben Lomond. That looming 56-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Trojans yet this season.

It was another big night for Cade Randall, who threw for 159 yards and three TDs on perfect 5-for-5 passing. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Pierce, who rushed for 66 yards and one score.

Morgan was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Grantsville's offense rose to the challenge against a Tigers defense that boasted an average of only 14.86 points allowed on Friday. The Cowboys blew past Ogden 42-7. Considering the Cowboys have won three contests by more than 31 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Morgan better focus on containing Rigdon Murdock and Dallan Van Vliet as the pair were huge in Grantsville's win. Murdock rushed for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Van Vliet rushed for 44 yards and one TD. Those 131 rushing yards gave Murdock a new career-high.

Grantsville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Colt Thomas and Jake Bodell.

Morgan's record now sits at 6-1. As for Grantsville, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Everything came up roses for Morgan against Grantsville in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
