Baseball Recap: Whittier Takes a Loss

Whittier extended their losing streak to nine on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-16 in the process. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the California Condors. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Condors this season, with their most recent defeat being a 9-1 loss on Wednesday.

Whittier saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jiovanni Munoz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for California, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

On California's side, Adam Vitela made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Vitela has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Luke Martinez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one triple. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joshua Camacho, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Whittier will challenge El Rancho at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. As for California, they have already played their next matchup, a 13-5 loss against San Juan Hills on the 3rd.
