Peabody is 2-8 against Gibson County since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Golden Tide will take on the Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Peabody has three straight victories, Gibson County has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Peabody proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 12) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Union City 3-2.

Alexis Wilson was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Macie Rowan, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Gibson County fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Ripley on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 10-9. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Pioneers' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Hannah Prestininzi was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Chloe Allmon was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs while going 3-for-5. Haley Mingle also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Peabody now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Gibson County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Gibson County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Peabody hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. It's a different story for Gibson County, though, as they've only averaged .220. Will they be able to contain Peabody's hitters?
