Baseball Recap: Shelby County Gets the Win

While Shelby County's win against Henry Clay wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rockets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Blue Devils on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rockets have posted since April 14th.

Foster Whisman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Isaac Voight was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Shelby County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-18 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Henry Clay, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-15.

Looking ahead, Shelby County will head out to challenge Franklin County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Henry Clay, they will be playing in front of their home fans against DuPont Manual at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crimsons have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
