Preview: Trinity Titans vs. Smith Academy Fighting 54th
Trinity is 5-0 against Smith Academy since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Trinity Titans will head out on the road to challenge the Smith Academy Fighting 54th at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Trinity focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.
Trinity struggled with assists on Tuesday (Elkhart Christian Academy had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Trinity lost to Elkhart Christian Academy at home by a decisive 46-28 margin. While losing is never fun, Trinity can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 420th, while Elkhart Christian Academy is ranked 200th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jacob Palmer, who scored six points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Josh Heintzelman, who scored six points.
Smith Academy can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game last Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pierceton Woods Academy 55-20 on the road. The victory was just what Smith Academy needed coming off of a 67-23 loss in their prior contest.
Trinity has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Smith Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-8.
Trinity didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Smith Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 37-33 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Trinity since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
