Softball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Shelby's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

Shelby lost to Highland on Wednesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Whippets came out on top against the Fighting Scots by a score of 9-4.

Alyssa Booker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Shelby got a big performance out of Natalie Kennard, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Kennard has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylee Sturts, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple and one run.

Shelby is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Highland, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5.

Looking ahead, Shelby will head out to square off against Clyde at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Fliers' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Whippets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Highland, they will be playing at home against Galion at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
