Faieta, Bryan, Rochard, Franklin, Yanez named 2017 MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of Week

Brooke Yanez were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week winners for their outstanding play during the week of May 29-June 4.
East RegionFaieta twirled a perfect game against Metuchen, helping Cedar Grove to a 4-0 win for the NJSIAA Group 1 state title. The sophomore righty fanned 13 in her third perfect game and fourth no-hitter of the season. Faieta's perfecto comes a little more than a week after striking out all 21 batters in a perfect game.
North Region
Bryan was 3-0 with three shutouts and 27 strikeouts to just one walk. She tossed a five-inning no-hitter and two one-hitters in helping Elwood earn its first state finals berth. In her final start of the week, she struck out nine as the Panthers cruised to a 13-0 win over Whitko and advanced to the state finals. Just prior to that, the senior righty fanned nine, allowed just one hit and did not walk a batter in a 2-0 victory over Boone Grove. In her first start of the week against Alexandria Monroe, Bryan sat down nine batters and walked one in a one-hit shutout.
South RegionGoing the distance in three starts, Rochard posted a 3-0 record, struck out 42 batters and did not allow a run. The senior right hander scattered 10 hits and walked three helping Warhill to a Group 3A East Region championship. In her most dominant start of the week, Rochard tossed a one-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts and one walk in the East Region semifinals. She opened the week, fanning 14 and walking one in a four-hit shutout of Tabb. Rochard ended her dominant week with a five-hit, 13-strikeout performance in the region final win over York. South Central RegionFranklin hit .800 with two doubles, a triple, home run and seven RBI. She scored four times and posted a 1.500 slugging percentage. She went 4-for- 5 and scored two runs in each of her two starts. Against Wolfe County, Franklin doubled, tripled and drove in four runs. One day later versus Leslie County, she double, homered and registered three RBI.
West RegionYanez struck out 23, tossing a no-hitter and one-hitter in a pair of complete-game wins leading Buena to an undefeated season (27-0-1) and a CIF-SS Division 4 state championship, their first title since 1989. In the state championship clincher against San Marcos, Yanez did not allow a hit, struck out 12 and walked two. In her first start, the senior southpaw blanked Saint Joseph in a state semifinal win, striking out 11 and walking two.
The 2017 MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of the five regions. During the spring campaign, a player from each of five separate high school regions is selected.
