Preview: Oceanside Sailors vs. Freeport Red Devils
Oceanside has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Saturday. They will square off against the Freeport Red Devils at 12:00 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Two weeks ago, Oceanside came up short against Hempstead and fell 60-48.
Meanwhile, Freeport also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Uniondale by a score of 52-41. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Freeport in their matchups with Uniondale: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Freeport had strong showings from Elijah Darby, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks, and Jevon Saul, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Darby is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season.
Oceanside's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Freeport, they bumped their record down to 5-8 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Oceanside against Freeport in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 61-29 win. With Oceanside ahead 34-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
